The City of Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts is seeking to fill the Senior Stagehand position. Duties include providing on site liaison between building users and stage crew; supervising and training volunteer and professional stagehands; providing on site production and stage management expertise for users with varying levels of theatrical skills; and enforcement of facility safety protocol. Outstanding interpersonal skills, a strong customer service orientation and the ability to make sound independent judgments as well as experience in technical operations of a facility are essential skills. Flexibility, a positive attitude and a sense of humor are also vital.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Recommended: Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade; college course work or Bachelor of Fine Arts in technical theater highly preferred. Two years of technical experience in a heavily scheduled, multi-use performing arts center and one year of experience supervising stagehands.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
KNOWLEDGE OF: The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of counterweight systems and their safe operation and maintenance; be familiar with the production standards of a wide variety of performance types, including classical music, dance theater and popular music; knowledge of and experience in standard theatrical construction techniques, including flats, platforms, wagons and soft-goods and rigging; experience with large, permanent theatrical lighting systems, including computer light boards; and experience with sound recording playback and reinforcement and ability to set up and mix up to five microphones. ABILITY TO: Evaluate safety of scenery as it moves into the building; teach safe technical operation of all systems to people with a wide variety of backgrounds, including children and adults; quickly evaluate the technical needs of building users as well as the extent of their production background and adjust working methods accordingly; and work as a crew member or as a supervisor and to move easily from one role to the other.
Extensive experience in one of the following areas is highly desirable: (1) theatrical sound systems, including equipment repair, operation, recording, reinforcement and installation/maintenance; (2) theatrical lighting, including equipment repair, operation of various computer light boards and installation and maintenance; and/or (3) stage management for theater, dance, musical theater, opera or classical music.
SPECIAL LICENSE:
Possession of a valid California driver's license is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Will be required to work a flexible schedule, including nights and/or weekends, as assigned. Must be able to climb vertical ladders and lift and carry heavy objects.
