Incumbents licensed as traffic engineers may perform tasks such as performing studies related to traffic periodicity, street and highway capacity, traffic forecasting and analysis, and signal placement and timing; incumbents licensed as civil engineers may perform duties such as conducting geometric studies which are preliminary to the design of fixed works; and incumbents licensed as electrical engineers may perform duties such as designing signal systems and highway lighting, designing special highway message signs, and designing ramp and lane metering systems.
The Principal Transportation Engineer class in this series is a management level class requiring a high degree of professional skill and knowledge in administering and evaluating complex traffic engineering programs.
