Performs very responsible and difficult staff support and administrative assistance as secretary to a County agency administrator or the director of a County department.
EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of
Organization and functions of Sacramento County government and departments
Principles of managing and coordinating secretarial aspects of a County agency or department
Modern office methods and practices, with particular emphasis in the work of an administrative office
Correct English usage, including grammar, spelling, vocabulary;
Simple arithmetic
Proper preparation and format for correspondence and reports;
Principles and practices of supervision
Filing systems
Ability to
Take responsibility and use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority
Evaluate demands on the administrator's or director's time and arrange his/her schedule accordingly
Interpret and apply departmental policies and procedures
Establish effective working relationships with County agency and department heads and staff, and the general public in routine, emergency, and emotional situations
Maintain a record-keeping and follow-up system
Prepare summaries of reports and correspondence
Compose reports and letters independently
Compose correspondence from brief oral or written instructions
Analyze situations accurately, and take effective action
Communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
Read, write, and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance
Operate standard office machines and equipment used in work assignments, such as typewriters, word processing equipment, computer terminals, printers, recording equipment, calculating machines, copying equipment, telephone equipment, radio/telephone equipment, etc.
