This position will serve as a Risk Management/Quality Improvement Consultant, which performs reviews and analyses of medical malpractice/critical occurrences for the Department of Health Services.
Assists facilities in developing root cause analyses for sentinel events; reviews reports prepared by central and facility quality improvement program staff, reviews departmental policies, clinical nursing care standards, laws and regulations, and recommends methods of achieving compliance and improving patient care; prepares reports that include an analysis of facility responses to corrective actions and recommends system-wide improvements; performs critical analyses of medical records to assess appropriateness of clinical care, determine liability, and identify system-wide quality of care issues; drives to facilities and collaborates with facility administrators and clinical staff in the interpretation of laws, regulations and standards governing licensing, accreditation and certification for Medicare and Medi-Cal, quality improvement and risk management, and in various acceptable methods of maintaining, improving, or modifying operations; and conducts quality improvement and/or risk management training.
