LOCAL NONPROFITS WORK TOGETHER TO START A NEW TRADITION HELPING THE NEEDY IN SOLANO COUNTY
FAIRFIELD, CA – As funding declines and the need increases, five Solano County nonprofits take steps to make a difference. On Thanksgiving morning, November 26, Solano Hearts United, a group of dedicated nonprofits, is hosting the county’s first annual Turkey Trot in Suisun Valley from 8:00 to 11:00 am. The 5k walk/run and 10k run will begin at Solano Community College.
Solano Hearts United includes CASA of Solano County, Children’s Nurturing Project, Heather House, Meals on Wheels, and Mission Solano. The goal is to raise funds and increase awareness for important social services offered in Solano County. The proceeds from the event will help each charity continue to serve low-income, disadvantaged children, adults and seniors living in Solano County.
“I am happy to stay close to home this Thanksgiving and support local programs in need of funding”, said Saskia Lembesis, of Meals on Wheels. The group is encouraging families to make the Solano Turkey Trot a new tradition for family and friends. “This event is the perfect opportunity to teach children about giving thanks.”

Participants may choose either the 10k or 5k run or the 5k walk. The registration fee is $25 per participant until November 22 and $35 on race day. Check-in begins at 7:00 a.m. with a race start time of 8:30 a.m.. All runners will be timed by microchip for accuracy. Each registrant will receive an official race long sleeved tee shirt (for those who pre-register before November 10th. All others, while supplies last), post race snack, and raffle entry. Participants may register at www.solanoturkeytrot.org or www.active.com. Pre-race registration is also available in person at Fleet Feet in Vacaville. Local produce will be available for purchase after the race.
