The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department is recruiting individuals with law enforcement (Sheriff or Police) dispatching experience to fill a number of immediate vacancies. Depending on qualifications and emergency dispatching experience, individuals may be offered appointment above the first salary step noted above.
Sheriff’s Dispatcher will be assigned duties in a state-of-the-art computer-aided dispatching (CAD) facility in Martinez, CA. The facility operates on a 7 day, 24 hour schedule and maintains three 8 hour shifts daily. Weekend, holiday and overtime work is required. Dispatchers are responsible for radio communication with 15-20 patrol units operating in the field and provide additional dispatch services to cities, fire departments, ambulance units and the County Office of Emergency Services.
This is a non-sworn uniformed position for which a $800 yearly uniform allowance is provided. Most positions are eligible for a 5% shift differential and all overtime is compensated at 1-1/2 times regular hourly rate. Persons fluent in Spanish may qualify for a bilingual differential of $80/month in selected positions.
Prior to employment as a Sheriff’s Dispatcher II, applicants must successfully complete a background investigation, including reference checks with current and past employers and pass a medical examination and a psychological test which will measure the applicant’s ability to work under stress and adapt to a strict working environment.
