The City of Mountain View Police Department is currently recruiting for the position of Police Officer, highly motivated men and women who are currently attending or graduating from a California POST Basic Police Academy.

The Police Officer's primary responsibility is to promote community order and protect life and property through the preservation of the public peace, prevention of crime and enforcement of laws. Specialized job assignments offer job diversity and career development. The Police Department is committed to the philosophy of Community Policing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Police Officer—Academy Graduate:

Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college.
Possession of a valid California driver's license.
Vision and hearing capability consistent with guidelines by California POST and/or the City of Mountain View.
Completion of a California Basic Police Academy with a current certification.
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident in the process of obtaining U.S. citizenship.
Computer keyboarding skills required.

Police Officer—Academy Enrollee:

Completion of 40 semester units or 60 quarter units from an accredited college at time of application.
Proof of current enrollment at a California POST Basic Police Academy.
Vision and hearing capability consistent with guidelines by California POST and/or the City of Mountain View.
Possession of a valid California driver's license.
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident in the process of obtaining U.S. citizenship.
Computer keyboarding skills required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position requires working outdoors in situations which may be hazardous and life-threatening. Police Officers will be required to work various shifts, overtime and on call as assigned.

Police Officer—Academy Graduate: Provide a copy of your California POST Basic Police Academy certificate.

Police Officer—Academy Enrollee: Proof of current enrollment in a California POST-approved Basic Police Academy.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Application screening will be part of the examination process. Based on the application screening, those candidates with the most relevant qualifications will be invited to a Police Chief's interview (weighted 100 percent).

Candidates passing the Police Chief's interview process will be placed on an eligibility list. Depending on the number of applications, the above process may be altered. Candidates on the eligibility list must successfully pass a medical exam, psychological screening and an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph, prior to employment.
