The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is accepting applications on an ongoing basis to fill experienced Cytotechnologist positions as they arise. Positions in this classification are located at the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center in Martinez, California.
Cytotechnologists spend the majority of time screening stained gynecological and non-gynecological slides under a microscope and interpreting and recording the results under the supervision of Pathologists. They are responsible for receiving specimen material and slides from wards and clinics and entering information in laboratory records. Other duties include, but are not limited to: investigating and recommending modification of current procedural techniques or the establishment of new techniques; ordering supplies and equipment; and meeting with hospital staff and physicians to assist in cytology services.
In addition to the duties listed above, Senior Cytotechnologists coordinate quality assurance and quality control programs in cytology; document and maintain State and Federally mandated statistics; revise cytology manuals as needed, and write protocols for new cytology procedures. In addition, a Senior Cytotechnologist schedules and records preventative maintenance for medical instruments; resolves day-to-day technical problems; collects data and information for Pathologist and assists less experienced Cytotechnologists with complex cytology specimen handling.
