This guitar has been played over the years, but it is still in good condition. The tuning machines, bridge, tailpiece, and pickguard appear to be original. The finish has yellowed quite a bit. There are some small surface scratches and dings (one larger ding by the control cavity cover, see photo) but most are minor (see photos). The finish is worn through to the wood on one side of the neck, and worn through the amber lacquer coat down to the white underneath on the other. The sort of playing wear on this guitar is what some folks pay a lot of money for in a modern "relic" guitar but on this piece it is all legitimate wear from playing.
There have been some modifications done to this guitar. The pickups have been changed to Dimarzio humbuckers (I don't know which pickup models, see photos). There has been a coil tap switch installed (I think it is only for the neck position pickup) just below the three-way switch. Another round cavity has been routed in the back of the guitar for the coil tap (see photos).
This guitar plays very well. The neck is straight with no warping or twisting. The frets do have quite a bit of wear on them, but the guitar set up with no buzzing or other problems. The frets are pretty low, and it may need a re-fret in the near future depending on your playing style and personal preference. Les Pauls are notoriously heavy guitars, and this one fits that description. The guitar itself weighs 10.6 Lbs, the guitar in it's case weighs about 18 lbs. Unfortunately that is price you have to pay for that Les Paul tone and sustain.
Every professional guitarist should have a Les Paul in his or her arsenal. This is a great vintage guitar that gets better and better with age as the quality control of modern guitars goes down hill. If you don't yet have a Les Paul this is a great work-horse of a guitar that will not disappoint.
