Antique Secretary. This gorgeous piece is likely of the Empire Period, it was made between 1830 and 1850 of American Burl Walnut. The drawer pulls were added some time after it was made, possibly at the time it was refinished, date unknown. Since there are key holes for the drawers and the writing area, it was most likely a piece of furniture in a wealthy home in which the woman of the house would carry the keys to it (there are two keys).

This piece was acquired from the San Francisco home of the Folgers Family of coffee fame. In the opinion of the antique appraiser (appraised in 2003), it's worth in the range of $1,200-$1,500.

This piece was donated to the Heather House Homeless Shelter in hopes that it could be sold to raise funds to help needy families. Heather House is located in Fairfield. Please email us with your questions or to schedule an appointment to look at the piece. Make us an offer!
